Juliet Buchanan Wilder, born in Indiana, the only daughter of Moses H. Wilder, was for many years a successful teacher. In 1853 she went out with Governor Slade as a teacher to Southern Indiana, and taught near Vevay for some years. In 1860 she was in Grinnell with her brother, and was in charge of the High-School; and on the death of her brother's wife and children she returned with the remaining children to her father and remained until his return from Colorado, when she took the children and made him a home in Connecticut.
In 1873 she was made a matron of one of the homes of the Girls' Industrial School in Middletown. Later she was the head of a home of the Industrial School at Lancaster, Massachusetts, on the original Wilder farm in Lancaster.
