- Antoinette Feola MacDonald, loving mother, and grandmother, died peacefully from complications of heart failure and diabetes in the early morning of October 13, 2024, at Kingston General Hospital in Kingston, Ontario. Leading up to her passing, her children and granddaughter were fortunate to be with her.
Antionette was born in Scituate, Massachusetts on December 7, 1937. She was a twin child born with brother Ferdinand Jr. to Ilda (Robinson) of Vermont and Ferdinand Feola, who had immigrated from Abruzzi, Italy. Antionette had an older sister, Emily (Mitchell) and stepbrother Joe (Witham). The four children, Ilda and her second husband, Hiram Witham, settled in Worcester, Vermont following the loss of their birth father. Antionette studied at University of Vermont and followed her passions to New York City to pursue acting. It is there that she met and married William (Billy) Edwards. They resided in Ibiza, Spain and had their son Bogart. After several years of running an American bakery and Billy pursuing script writing, they moved to Toronto, Canada. As their marriage began to fracture, award-winning director Allan King filmed the groundbreaking documentary, A Married Couple. In 1969, their daughter Amadea was born. Highlights of Antionette’s career included being the first female director of an Olympic event (soccer) at the 1976 Montreal Olympics and more than a decade distributing children’s international programming for TVOntario.
In 1993, Antionette and her second husband, David MacDonald, moved to Kingston, Ontario, where she lived for the balance of her life. She continued her career in television distribution with Compass and Presto International. As a breast cancer survivor, she volunteered with Breast Cancer Action Kingston, pursued her love of acting in several plays, sat on many boards, was active in political elections, and was a member of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada. A great cook and lover of food (olives & garlic gambas!), art, opera, music, and traveling the world, Antionette took full advantage of all that life had to offer. She was loved for her fabulous sense of style, engaging conversation, and lust for life. She was remarkable.
Antionette is survived by her son Bogart, daughter Amadea, daughter-in-law Corina Wilkes, granddaughter Isabella, and grandson Mcqueen.
Special thanks to her village of friends, the staff, doctors, nurses, PSWs, and social workers at the Rosewood, Arbor Heights Extendicare, and Kingston General Hospital for their care and support of Antionette’s health over the years and in her final days.
A celebration of life will take place in the future.
