  [Brøderbund WFT Vol. 7, Ed. 1, Tree #4588, Date of Import: Aug 24, 1997] James Franklin Shafer, son of Fred Shafer and Charlotte Weideman, owned a good farm of 100 acres in Section 12, Vance Creek Township, Wisconsin, was born in Section 34, Stanfold Township, this county. He was reared on the home farm, attended the schools of the neighborhood, and thoroughly mastered the work of farming. in 1920 he settled on the tract he operated in 1922. He had a good place, with a comfortable home, good barns and other buildings, and well tilled acres. He successfully carried on general farming and dairying, and had a good herd. As a good citizen he took part in public affairs, and was regarded as one of the dependable men of the community. Another source has his birthdate as May 3, 1898.
