Henry, Hendrie, Hendry, These names are common in the districts of Ayr and Fife. The "d" is intrusive after n. Henricus, dapifer, was a witness c. 1183-1188, and Henricus (Chen) was bishop of Aberdeen, 1282-1328. William Henry was witness at Perth, 1551, Allen Henry, burgess of Irvine, 1552, Hendyre Hendry, burgess of Stirling, 1562. John Hendrie was tenant of the marquis of Huntly, 1600, and William Henrie was member of Huntly Volunteers, 1798. As forename: Hendrie Ralstoun (1519) and Hendrie Dwn (1527). The book, "History of Barron County," states, the Henry family, originally spelled Hendry, dates back to one of the passengers on the Mayflower, which I have been unable to varify.
