  [Brøderbund WFT Vol. 7, Ed. 1, Tree #4588, Date of Import: Aug 24, 1997] Peter Wellington Caswell, son of John Caswell, was one of the early settlers of the upper Mississippi region. He and his wife Nancy Maria Hendry, were both born in New York state, of Colonial stock. They came up the river with pioneers and settled across the river from Stillwater, Minnesota, in St. Croix County, Wisconsin. The country was then wild, and the Indians unfriendly. One of the sons, Peter, was stolen by the red men. John Caswell was a veteran of the Civil War. During the Minnesota Sioux Indian uprising in 1862, he and Walter Hill were dispatch bearers. From St. Croix County the family moved to Pierce County, Wisconsin, and settled at Maiden Rock, where the father and mother died. The children in the Caswell family who grew to adult years were Francis, Catherine, DeLoss, Peter, William and Merton, Calvin died at three months.They are now all deceased. Peters mother was of German descent, born in New York State but name unknown. Peter was adopted by a family named Rulison or Roolison, exact spelling unsure of. Migrated to Wisconsin 1853/1854. Another source shows his birth date as June 7, 1825. He is buried at Maiden Rock, Wisconsin.
