The V.S. of Lancaster, Massachusetts say that on March 31, 1779, Susannah Wilder married Dr. Jonas Prescott, but does not identify her. My associate, Gerald G. Wilder, Librarian at Bowdoin College, sent me data assuming that this Susannah was (2309) who was born December 3, 1756 (Lancaster, V.S.) Daughter of Jotham Wilder and wife, Phoebe Wheeler of the Thomas Line, 12th Lineage.
He was in error. There were several almost contemporary Susannahs in Massachusetts at that time and the daughter of Jotham and Phoebe is shown by the Old Wilder Book as having married January 12, 1779, Thomas Sawyer of Lancaster and having by him eleven children.
Nor was she likely to have been (4268) of the Edward Line, 1st Lineage, born in Hingham in 1751, daughter of Ephraim Wilder and wife, Susannah Whiton. But there was born at Lancaster a Susannah Wilder, daughter of James Wilder and wife, Martha Broughton, who is not disposed of in the records, either by death orother marriage, who may very well be the one who married Dr. Prescott - particulary as the Old Book author's examination of this family's record was not very close. He missed the survival records of two of this Susannah's older brothers.
So, until proved otherwise, we will record this Susannah as the PROBABLE wife of Dr. Jonas Prescott.
Anyhow, she died early enough for the Doctor to marry a second time.
