1751 I'm a transplanted New Englander. My parents are Paul Oscar Avery(1921-2003) and Betty Wheaton Avery(1925-1992). My mom's and aunt's interest in family history was passed to me. I have been doing family history research for over 20 years, most of which has been in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine.

I am retired, and live in The Villages, Florida, and would be happy to find and photograph cemetery stones of your friends or family in the Sumter - Lake - Marion County area.

If you find some pictures or monuments I haven't included, I'd love to hear from you when you post them. And corrections or additions to my postings are welcome. All suggestions are responded to within 48 hours unless I am out of town. If you supply me with additional information, I will always research and double check it before posting it to a memorial. There is simply too much inaccurate information out there.
Avery (Ballston Spa, NY), Kevin W (I14446)

1752 Immigrated via "Rose" of Yarmouth, ship owned by William Andrews, Jr., Master. Set sail from Ipswich, England and arrived at Boston, MA on June 8, 1637 (Pierce Genealogy by F.B. Pierce: Thomas Pierce, emigrant ancestor came from England to this country 1633/4) PIERCE, THOMAS SR. (I20229)

1753 In 1633, John Wilder married Amy Knapp of Chilton. Through this marriage the family became Founder’s Kin of St John’s College Oxford, Sir William White, the founder, having been her ancestor. This no doubt accounts for the fact that a number of Wilders graduated from St John’s.

The eldest son of Thomas of Sulham was John and it is from him that the main line of English Wilders is descended.

1758 Information provided by Michael Phillips on 4 August 2015"

My Dad and his Dad are William Harold Phillips.

However, in the 1900, 1910, and 1920 census records my grandfather is listed as Harold.

In 1930 and 1940 he is listed as William, after he married. He worked at Plant Shoe factory in Roxbury Crossing, Boston. The owner of the shoe factory built "Castle in the Clouds" in NH; but the depression took its toll on the factory and the workers. The Castle was sold, the shoe factory closed, and my grandfather lost his job and his house at 6 Parker Place. Parker Place was the name of two streets near Roxbury crossing, and hopefully with a trip with my Dad we can figure out which place they lived. The names of the streets have changed since the 1930s and there is no Parker Place in Boston now. Grandfather moved to Hingham, Ma. Supposedly they bought, over time 3 houses at Chestnut Place, kind of a cul de sac above the Weir river and an estuary. However, in reviewing the Plymouth county Register of Deeds records, online, a cousin may have owned, or also owned, the properties, or one of the properties. My grandfather died in 1959.

In addition, under the "Read More" button in the description of the Ancient Dedham Cemetery, added by the present maintainer of this memorial soon after creating this memorial for his ancestor:

"In 1638, Joseph Kingsbury provided a portion of his land at the south end of his lot to enlarge the accommodation for the dead. The boundaries of the burial place continued the same for about 175 years, an area of about one acre. For a period of one hundred years, this was the only place of burial in the town of Dedham, and some parts were dug over several times to furnish graves for successive generations. Where a stone was not setup, the place of interment was soon forgotten, and so received another occupant. From the nature of things several thousand have here found their last resting place. One after another, for nearly two hundred years as the ashes were gathered, with no monument to distinguish one from another, it is truly fitting that the most beautiful trees of the forest should weave a canopy over their common resting place."
